Santa Monica College Board of Trustees chair Margaret Quiñones has received three awards in honor of her recent appointment by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, including:

n from the National Latino Trustees Association, an auxiliary of the national Association of Community College Trustees, for being the first Latina college trustee to be appointed to the Board of Governors;

n from the California Latino Trustees Association; and

n from the Puente Project.

Quiñones was elected to the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees in November 2000.

Before joining the college board, she served eight years on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District board of education.

She is a graduate of Santa Monica College and received a doctorate degree in educational leadership from UCLA.

She was also a fellow at Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.
