For its 18th anniversary event, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival will return for the second consecutive year to the Electric Lodge in Venice, beginning Thursday, March 24.
Since its inception, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival has presented over 400 works by multicultural women from around the globe in the disciplines of theatre, dance, music, performance poetry, performance art and storytelling. The women represent a wide range of ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds, event organizers noted.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Coming Of Age.”
The festival kicks off on Thursday, March 24 with the traditional Champagne Gala and Awards Ceremony at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice. This year’s theme for the evening is “Standing on the Shoulders Of,” honoring exceptional women who have made laudable contributions in theatre.
Following the reception at 7 p.m., the festivities continue at 8 p.m. with the presentation of the Integrity, Eternity, Rainbow, and Maverick Awards to Suzanna Guzman, Velina Hasu Houston, Charmaine Jefferson and Joan Benedict Steiger.
The festival will continue with performances scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, March 25; 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 26; and 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 27.
The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival was founded by Executive Producer Adilah Barnes and Miriam Reed. This year’s managing producer is Shyla La’Sha.
Admission to the gala is $40, or two tickets for $75 (includes light fare and champagne).
For the other programs, ticket prices this year include festival VIP passes for all six shows at $125; and general admission single show tickets at $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. Discounts are available upon request for students, seniors, and groups of 10 or more.
